With its theme of Water Cooperation: Building Partnerships, Stockholm World Water Week 2013 was a very encouraging event for the Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS).
AWS co-convened (with GIZ/The Water Futures Partnership and CEO Water Mandate) a seminar on “How Can Corporate Water Stewardship Partnerships Benefit Society?” This seminar was very well attended, and also live-streamed via the SIWI website.
One of the highlights was the presentation by Geoff Townsend on Nalco (Ecolab)’s application of the Beta AWS Standard at two sites in China (chemicals manufacturing and hospitality). He described how helpful the AWS standard had been on a variety of fronts, including raising external and internal awareness of water stewardship up to the CEO level.
Mark Brune of Mintails also presented on how application of the Beta AWS Standard is fitting within a broader stewardship approach being adopted at the company’s gold mining facility in South Africa.
